Loyalist Decorative Painters' Guild
Minutes: General Meeting Sept.9/09.
President Judy welcomed members & 3 guests at 7:55PM.
Treasurer's report - in Lorraine's absence, Shelagh reported funds as follows: Bank balance is $1,803.41 Petty Cash= $148.45.
Membership - Marilyn would like dues paid by the Oct.14th meeting. She also volunteered to be the Telephone Comm., as well.
Big Brushes - As we do not have a Big Brush Coordinator, and it was decided by the Executive, that there are Big Brushes accessible in the area, perhaps we should do a bus trip to Ottawa Art gallery, in lieu of paying the hefty price for out-of-town teachers. Special events at the Gallery will be explored. A 20-passenger bus would cost $575.00 + 5% tax.
Jan Z. is also looking into having a special speaker at one of our meetings. A portrait artist, Susan Stathan, might possibly be available for our Nov. meeting.
Programme - Julie & Mary Ellen will teach a Gingerbread face brooch at a cost of $2.00.
Library - Erika will be present with the library at our Oct. meeting.
Website - Connie asked anyone who doesn't want their name on our site to let her know.
The 50/50 draw was $36 -- Midge won the $18.
Executive meeting happenings –
Programme - Julie & Mary Ellen have been doing a great job. They came up with painting on trowels for this evening. Since the cost was minimal, the Guild paid for them.
It was also discussed that many of you do not like the one-hr. painting sessions; you would like something with more challenge. A suggestion was put forward to the executive that having projects of longer length spread over a two meeting period may be an answer to this situation. Concern was brought up that some people may not make it to both meetings and be able to finish their project. A suggestion was made that possibly a paint day could be arranged similar to has been done in the past at the church hall and members could work on unfinished projects. It was decided not to implement for all meetings but try it and see how the response is and Connie will teach a two meeting project over the March and April meetings.
Also discussed was the fact that people are leaving in the middle of a painting session - some feel rushed & never get the project finished. Because painting is the main focus of this Guild, it was decided to have a social 1/2 hr. at 6:30 -
Painting at 7:00 & meeting held at 8:30. For anyone who does not wish to paint but wants to socialize, they can do so in the kitchen or the back of the room, keeping their voices down so everyone can hear the instructor. They can also help others with their painting. Painters can continue to paint while the meeting is on but it is encouraged that everyone stay and help to take down the tables.
Christmas Party - Jan Z. will decorate: Mary Ellen & Julie will do the entertainment: the meal will be potluck.
Presents - Handmade gifts should be given at the party. Nothing big - even a painted ornament. There is a lot of talent out there & even handmade cards, embroidery, knitting, something baked or preserved with the recipe would be just fine.
Nothing that is expensive or takes a lot of time as it is the thought that counts.
Spring Tea - will be held on Sat., Apr.24/10, for all former members.
Coordinators: Marilyn & Mary Ellen.
Committee: Judy & Jackie.
Invitations: Marilyn & Elaine.
This committee will start work immediately & report to the Executive in Jan. Every Guild member will be expected to assist with baking, sandwiches, etc.
Memory Boxes - if you have some at home, please bring them in - painted if you wish. Other Guilds & Chapters really need them.
Advertizing - Mary Ellen will approach the Trentonian about doing a story about our Guild. Anyone with contacts in the publishing business, please approach them about doing a write-up.
Daytime meetings - would be totally unfair to our working members.
Show & Tell - Connie showed off the new DecoArt brushes now available. She also discussed the Tier 1 project.
Complaints/ Suggestions /Happenings - Judy reported a good time at HOOT - excellent trade show. Her highlight was seeing Keith Urban!!
Noreen moved to rebate Jan Goheen the $30 for her missed bus trip, due to illness. All were in favour but she generously donated the money back to the Guild.
Festival of Trees - Rena was absent -- birds are due.
Welcoming - Jackie reported 19 members present + 2 guests.
Adjournment = 8:30 - moved by Midge; sec. by Laura. Carried.
